Chinese environmental activism

Certainly there has been a neglect of the environment in China. Certainly there are many problems of disregard and exploitation and mis-education that continue. However, certainly, quite often it seems recently, the political will to take action, or at least say action is being taken, that could make a difference. A product of a government that is less accountable to the people and therefore has the ability to act more quickly? Perhaps.

But the fact remains that all countries around the world need to be proactive about changing the way that our cultures and economies are dealing with the environment. I found this story about the banning of plastic bags in China, where they are indeed used prolifically, especially interesting. “China: Free Shopping Bags to be Banned,” NY Times
